Match preview: Yorkshire Women v Lancashire Women, Metro Bank One Day Cup
Yorkshire v Lancashire
Metro Bank One-Day Cup, Women
Saturday September 12, 2026, 10.30am
Headingley
David Thorley has hailed the impressive form of Eve Jones during this season’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup, which concludes for Lancashire tomorrow.
Opening batter Jones is one of only two batters in the entire competition to have topped 600 runs, alongside England’s Maia Bouchier from Hampshire.
Left-handed Jones has led the way for much of the campaign and sits with 602 runs from 15 matches, including four fifties and a hundred. Bouchier took the lead on 604 thanks to a century in victory over The Blaze on Wednesday.
Jones has been in excellent touch for the last two seasons in 50-over cricket. Since the start of 2025, she has scored 1,058 runs from 24 matches for her county.
She will be desperate to finish 2026 with a bang when Lancashire cross the M62 tomorrow to face Yorkshire at Headingley, starting at 10.30am.
Neither side can qualify for the knockouts, meaning Lancashire will relinquish the trophy they won last September.
On Jones, Lancashire’s director of women’s cricket Thorley said: “Eve has had an exceptional season.
“Bearing in mind the injury she had to end her season early last year (shoulder) and to come back from that, it’s made it all the more impressive really.
“To be averaging over 40 across a long competition like this is pretty special.
“A player like Eve with her experience is going to be so important for us going forwards.
“She had a great year last year as well, but it probably went under the radar a bit given the form of Emma Lamb. You look at last year and our runs were more spread out. This year, we’ve really been relying on Eve.
“It’s not just her runs. She captained when Ellie Threlkeld was absent due to that England Test call, and Eve is a real leader in that dressing room.”
So, to Cross and Morris, who will make the final appearances of their careers over at Headingley. They are two players who adore the Roses battles and will certainly not be wanting to go out on a low note.
These two counties have met three times this season across both the One-Day Cup and the Vitality Blast, with Yorkshire winning two and Lancashire one. The White Rose won the reverse 50-over fixture at Emirates Old Trafford early in the season.
Cross said: “We played against Yorkshire a lot in pre-season, and we played well against them.
“They then had a brilliant game against us at Emirates Old Trafford, where we underperformed.
“We just need to try and make sure we play our best cricket and win that game.
“Headingley's almost weirdly become my second home, obviously going over there for four seasons of The Hundred (Northern Superchargers and Sunrisers Leeds).
“It’s a strange dynamic for a Lancastrian.
“But, when you've got the Red Rose on your shirt, you always know that it's one of the biggest rivalries in cricket.
“I'll make sure I know where my loyalties lie.”
Yorkshire are aiming to avoid finishing their first season in Tier 1 at the bottom of the table having lost 11 of their 15 matches. They have lost their last six, including against Essex at Chelmsford on Wednesday.
Captained by Lauren Winfield-Hill, they are coached by Rich Pyrah, who has just been appointed as head coach of the Melbourne Stars for this winter’s women’s Big Bash competition in Australia.
Australian overseas all-rounder Jess Jonassen has been their standout player with 26 wickets and 551 runs in this competition. She scored a century and took four wickets in beating Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford in late April.
Opposition player to watch
Netherlands international Sterre Kalis has enjoyed an impressive One-Day Cup campaign with five fifties in a haul of 492 runs.
Kalis has been in the Yorkshire system since the start of the regional era in 2020, playing her cricket for the old Northern Diamonds team.
The 27-year-old is a classy right-hander who is a linchpin in the Yorkshire top order, and her game has progressed significantly over the last couple of seasons.
She is a 360 degree scorer and was one of those players who opted to stay with Yorkshire when they were denied immediate entry into Tier 1 ahead of 2025.
What she did do was combine playing for Yorkshire in Tier 1 with some Tier 1 cricket on loan at Warwickshire last season.
Previous meeting
A standout all-round performance from Jess Jonassen, who made her first century in professional cricket and followed that with four wickets, led Yorkshire to victory by 83 runs in the One-Day Cup at Emirates Old Trafford back in late April.
Jonassen's fine 108 underpinned the Yorkshire innings with the visitors making 241 all out after being inserted.
Jonassen and Sterre Kalis (46) rebuilt with 109 for the third wicket after Kate Cross had struck two early blows.
Cross, with 4-38, enjoyed further success as Yorkshire lost their last six wickets for 45.
After Rachel Slater struck in the opening over of the Red Rose chase to dismiss Eve Jones, a 61-run partnership between Darcey Carter and Seren Smale looked to be the foundation for Lancashire to build on.
Jonassen (4-30) had other ideas with her left-arm spin, dramatically swinging the game Yorkshire's way with three wickets in three overs to reduce Lancashire to 74 for 4 in the 19th over.
That proved to be decisive as the hosts failed to recover, ending on 158 all out.
