Gleeson signs new T20 contract with Lancashire

Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce that Richard Gleeson has signed a new two-year T20 contract with the Club ahead of the 2023 Vitality Blast.

Last season saw Gleeson return to action and finish as the Vitality Blast’s leading wicket-taker as Lancashire Lightning reached the final.

In 16 matches, the Blackpool-born quick picked up 25 wickets at an average of 18 - including new career best figures of 5/33 against Worcestershire Rapids.

Gleeson’s form was rewarded with selection for England’s IT20 squad to take on India and he starred on debut dismissing Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant during his first two overs in international cricket.

He’s since made six international appearances, picking up nine wickets and was a travelling reserve during England’s victorious T20 World Cup campaign in Australia. Gleeson’s spent the winter playing franchise cricket for Delhi Bulls (T10 League) and Gulf Giants (ILT20).

Richard Gleeson said: “I am really pleased to sign another T20 contract with Lancashire. It was brilliant to play a key role as we reached the final of the Vitality Blast last summer and a bonus to finish as the Blast’s leading wicket taker.

“To then make my England debut and be part of a squad that lifted the T20 World Cup was a dream come true and something that I would never have imagined doing this time last year.”

“I have felt in good rhythm during the international and franchise cricket that I have played this winter. I am now looking forward to getting back to Emirates Old Trafford and playing for Lancashire Lightning in the Vitality Blast – hopefully we can go one better than last year and lift the trophy in July.”

Glen Chapple added: “We are delighted to have secured Richard’s services once again for the Vitality Blast – following his outstanding performances in last summer’s competition.

“It was great to see Richard back to full fitness, bowling fast, taking wickets and playing in 16 matches for us after coming through his injury problems of the past couple of seasons.

“We have all been delighted to see him gain deserved England recognition and then have a successful winter playing franchise cricket – we’re looking forward to welcoming him back into the fold in the coming weeks ahead of the Blast.”
