Josh Bohannon signs new contract until 2026
Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce that last season’s top run-scorer in Division One of the LV= Insurance County Championship, Josh Bohannon, has signed a new contract with the Club.
Bohannon who was named Lancashire Cricket’s Men’s Player of the Year after scoring 1,257 runs in the County Championship has committed his future to Emirates Old Trafford until the end of 2026.
The 26-year-old – who has made the number three spot his own in Championship cricket for the Red Rose - is regarded as one of the brightest batting talents in England and will once again tour with England Lions this winter after he was selected for their training camp in the UAE next month.
Born in Bolton, Bohannon first pulled on a Lancashire shirt at Under 13s level in 2010 and went on to represent the Under 14s, 15s and 17s before joining the Academy and then making his senior debut for the Club in all three formats during the 2018 season.
Bohannon has since made 127 appearances for the Red Rose across all three forms of the game and has starred in red ball cricket scoring 3,924 First-Class runs in a Lancashire shirt at an average of 47 - with 17 fifties and 10 centuries to his name so far.
The 2023 season will go down as his best to date as he scored 1,257 runs in the County Championship’s top division at an average just shy of 60 with four centuries – he also added a further 240 runs from five innings in the Metro Bank One Day Cup including a brilliant century in Blackpool.
Speaking after signing his new contract with Lancashire Cricket until 2026, Josh Bohannon said: "It is always an honour to sign a new contract with the Red Rose and I am so happy that I will be representing my home county for at least the next three seasons.
“I have enjoyed a great year personally with the bat and to finish as the leading run scorer in the County Championship is a great accolade and I was also really proud to have been voted Player of the Year by our own Members and supporters.
“The next challenge is to bring trophies back to Emirates Old Trafford, something we are all continuing to work incredibly hard to do so and I am looking forward to playing my part in that process for the next three years and beyond.”
Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton also commented: “We are really pleased that Josh has committed his future to the Club until the end of the 2026 season and look forward to watching him score runs from the number three position wearing the Red Rose for many years to come.
“Josh has enjoyed a brilliant 2023 and ended the season thoroughly deserving to be the leading run scorer in the First Division and earning himself another England Lions call-up for their trip to the UAE.
“He has developed into a real leader within the dressing room and sets a great example to our younger players with the way he goes about his game and alongside Keaton, Josh played a key leadership role during the One Day Cup and I look forward to seeing that aspect of his game continue to evolve.”
