Lancs Around the World: Men’s squad set for overseas action this winter

Lancashire Cricket’s Men’s squad are set to be in overseas action throughout the winter

A number of the First Team squad are set to make trips around the world to take part in international, franchise and grade cricket, in addition to several warm weather training camps during the final part of 2024.

Lancashire currently have four players involved in England’s white-ball tour of West Indies with Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood and Phil Salt all featuring in the ODI series. The trio have also now been joined by the returning Jos Buttler who will make his injury comeback in the IT20s which start on Saturday in Bridgetown.

Matty Hurst and Mitch Stanley will fly out to South Africa for an England Lions training camp which begins on 20 November – led by former Lancashire and England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff. The camp will conclude with a four-day match against South Africa A in Western Province in December.

Hurst will depart from the Lions camp early, in order to join Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings at the Big Bash League in Australia, after the duo were both signed by Perth Scorchers. The Scorchers’ tournament opener will take place against Melbourne Stars at the Optus Stadium on 15 December.

In further international news, the teenage trio of Kesh Fonseka, Rocky Flintoff and Joe Moores have all been selected for an England U19s training camp in South Africa. The squad will train in Stellenbosch from 25 November to 16 December as preparation for the upcoming series against South Africa U19s in January 2025.

Luke Wood is currently in the UAE as he prepares to play for Deccan Gladiators in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, which begins on 21 November. Wood will be joined at the tournament by Lancashire teammates Buttler (also Deccan Gladiators), Livingstone (Bangla Tigers), Salt (Team Abu Dhabi) and Mahmood (Northern Warriors) following England’s tour of the West Indies.

Lancashire also have a trio of players who are currently out in Sydney. Tom Aspinwall (Eastern Suburbs CC), George Bell (Randwick Petersham CC) and Jack Blatherwick (Blacktown CC) will spend the winter down under playing grade cricket before returning to the Club for the final part of pre-season training in March.

Will Williams is spending the winter back in his homeland of New Zealand where he is playing club cricket for his former side Peninsula Harbour CC. Opening batter Harry Singh is currently training out in India, where he will visit Mumbai and Delhi before Christmas.

For the rest of the Men’s squad who are remaining in the UK this winter, they will return to Emirates Old Trafford to begin a pre-season fitness testing schedule on Monday 11 November.
