Lancashire and England bowler Kate Cross said: “As I have said since the news was announced a couple of years ago, I am really excited and proud to see women’s international cricket return to Lancashire Cricket this summer.

“As a venue, Emirates Old Trafford means so much to me and holds a lot of special memories. I know that all of the girls will really enjoy playing there, particularly somebody like Sophie Ecclestone who is currently the number one ranked IT20 bowler in the world and will have the chance to play in front of her friends and family on her home ground.

“I think it is also really exciting that the Club are trying to create history and break the attendance record for a women’s international held in the north. It would be great to take that honour from Headingley and I hope we can see a fantastic crowd at Emirates Old Trafford on the day.”

Club President Dame Sarah Storey also commented: “Securing the return of women’s international cricket to Emirates Old Trafford is a huge moment for the Club and we all can’t wait to watch England take on India at our venue in July. I am excited to attend the match with my family, who all love watching and being inspired by live sport and the game of cricket has something for everyone.

“In the North West we are spoilt for watching incredible live sport and I’m delighted that with this fixture we will be able to watch some of the world’s finest female cricketers in action. With consistently high turn outs for Women’s Super League games, in particular at Manchester United and Manchester City, it would be brilliant to see sports fans in the area come together for this game to show our support to England Women and help to create some more history at Emirates Old Trafford.

“I really hope as many people as possible can join us and in particular I can’t recommend enough a visit to Emirates Old Trafford for young families. It is truly amazing to see children inspired by live events and the atmosphere at international events like these is always extra special, making for a great day out.”
