Countdown to the Women's T20 World Cup begins as Old Trafford marks 100 days to go

The first ball of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 will be bowled on 12 June, and today, as one of the host venues, Old Trafford marked the milestone by transforming its iconic scoreboard into a huge 100-day countdown.

The moment was part of a wave of scoreboard transformations across the country and around the world, signalling the start of the final run-up to one of the biggest sporting events of the year. Cricket fans around the world are gearing up for an electrifying summer of women’s cricket, with excitement building ahead of the tournament coming to Manchester.

Scottish internationals Ailsa Lister, Darcey Carter and Liv Bell were part of the celebrations ahead of their national side competing in this summer’s tournament. Scotland will play twice in Manchester during the group stages, including a clash against Ireland. Powerhouses Australia and South Africa will also face-off at Old Trafford in one of the tournament’s marquee fixtures.

Countdown scoreboards also appeared simultaneously at cricket grounds across host cities in the UK including Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Bristol County Ground (Bristol), Hampshire Bowl (Southampton), The Oval (London), and Lord’s (London). Iconic global cricket grounds such as Sydney Cricket Ground (Australia), Eden Gardens (India) and Gaddafi Stadium (Pakistan) also followed suit transforming their scoreboards with the digital design. 

Beth Barrett-Wild, ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Tournament Director said, “In just 100 days, England and Wales will host the best female cricketers on the planet, for an unmissable sporting spectacle. With over 115,000 tickets already sold, excitement and momentum is building behind a tournament that’s ready to capture the hearts and minds of the nation and propel women’s cricket firmly into the sporting mainstream.”

Scotland International and Lancashire player, Ailsa Lister said: “With just 100 days to go, the countdown is well and truly on for the Women’s T20 World Cup this summer. It’s so exciting to have a World Cup so close to home and even more special that we’ve got two matches at our home ground Old Trafford.

“To have friends, family and travelling Scottish fans in the stands will be amazing. We’re determined to make it a World Cup to remember.”
