George Balderson signs new Lancashire deal until 2028

George Balderson signs new Lancashire deal until 2028

Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce that all-rounder George Balderson has signed a contract extension, keeping him at Emirates Old Trafford until the end of the 2028 season.

The 25-year-old, a product of the Club’s Academy, has become a key member of the squad since his First Team debut in 2020, making 101 appearances across all formats.

In First-Class cricket, Balderson has scored more than 2,000 runs, including two centuries and 11 half-centuries, with a high score of 116* against Warwickshire in 2023. As a seam bowler, he has taken 142 wickets at an average in the low 30s, with best figures of 5 for 14 – which included a stunning hat-trick in the win against Essex in 2022.

In limited-overs cricket, Balderson has scored 820 List A runs, including a top score of 106 not out, and taken over 34 wickets in the One-Day Cup. He has also taken six wickets in four Vitality Blast appearances, including 3 for 31 against Somerset at Finals Day last September.

During his Lancashire career Balderson has been a versatile player, batting throughout the middle order and as an opener, while contributing with both the new ball and as first change.

George Balderson said: “I’m absolutely delighted to extend my contract with Lancashire. This Club means a huge amount to me, having come through the Academy, and I feel incredibly proud to represent the Red Rose.

“We’re building a strong squad, with Crofty as Head Coach, and there is a real ambition to compete for trophies in all formats. I’m excited to contribute towards that over the next three years.

“Promotion is our number one priority heading into the new season, and we’re determined to finish the year back where we belong in Division One.”

Head Coach Steven Croft commented: “George’s progress over the last few years has been clear to see, not just in his performances but in how he goes about his cricket and training day to day.

“He gives us real flexibility as an all-rounder, which is something every side values, and he’s earned the trust of the group and the management to stand up and deliver during important moments.

“Keeping George here was important for us, and we’re excited to see how far he can take his game between now and 2028.”

Balderson’s new deal underlines Lancashire’s commitment to developing and retaining homegrown talent as he becomes the tenth men’s player to sign fresh terms during the off season.
