Paul Coughlin has just set a new record for the fastest-ever fifty in first-class cricket played at Southport, taking 36 balls to beat the previous best of 46 set by Surrey's Mark Butcher in 1996.

Paul Coughlin has sliced Beyers Swanepoel over extra cover for six and driven Tom Taylor over long-on into somebody's back garden on Harrod Drive to race to 49 off 34 balls before rain halts play. That was entertaining!

There was a rain shower during tea and that has shaved four overs off the day's allocation, so we've had just the one over since play resumed a few minutes ago during which Paul Coughlin swept a four off George Drissell.
Worcestershire have now taken the new ball as soon as it was available.

Matty Hurst edged George Drissell behind for 24 but we have been entertained by a brilliant cameo of 28 off 20 balls by Paul Coughlin in the run up to tea.
Coughlin lofted two sixes onto the railway lines while two of his three fours were once bounce efforts that nearly cleared the ropes and all of a sudden Lancashire are only 39 runs behind.

Chris Green edges behind for 15 attempting to drive Beyers Swanepoel who now has 3-46.

Matty Hurst and Chris Green get the Worcestershire lead down below 100 as they look to rebuild following the loss of two wickets in quick succession. The weather is holding up nicely, with sunny spells amid some blustery conditions.

Matthew Waite bowls two overs for 1 run and is replaced by Beyers Swanepoel. Waite now swaps ends replacing Tom Taylor at the Harrod Drive end.

Beyers Swanepoel and Tom Taylor have bowled some good, accurate deliveries this morning, but Jennings breaks the shackles with a lovely timed drive to square leg for four off Taylor.
Worcestershire make their first bowling change with Matthew Waite replacing Swanepoel.
