Player Profile
Gloucestershire academy graduate Ben Charlesworth agreed a deal to join Lancashire from November 2026.
The 25-year-old all-rounder departs Bristol having first made his debut at the age of just 17, before going on to play 142 times for Gloucestershire.
A versatile batter, Charlesworth can bat at the top of the order or lower down in red ball cricket. He did the latter at the start of his career.
He has made his way up to the top to open the batting in more recent years and hit a century and a career best 210 against Leicestershire in 2024.
Charlesworth has since added two more Rothesay County Championship centuries to that tally and has just shy of 3000 runs to his name. He’s become one of the most consistent opening batters in Division Two over the last few years.
The left-hander also has one Metro Bank One Day Cup ton to add to that tally, and is just five runs shy of 1000 in 50-over cricket.
Similarly, in T20 cricket, he’s only six runs away from the 1000-run mark, and though he is yet to crack a century in the shortest format, he has hit four scores of 50 plus.
He played a key part in Gloucestershire’s successful 2024 season in the Vitality Blast, where he struck 221 runs in just 13 innings, with a superb strike rate of 146.35. Charlesworth also hit more sixes than fours, with 14 maximums compared to 13 boundaries.
It was a campaign where Mark Alleyne’s side lifted the Blast at Edgbaston on Finals Day, and although Charlesworth was not required with the bat that day, he shone across the competition lower down the order, and played in every single game.
A more than handy bowler, Charlesworth has picked up 40 wickets across all formats in his career, with his best figures an extraordinary 3-5 in the County Championship back in 2025 in a home clash against Kent.
Looking a little further back in his career, the 25-year-old was previously captained by Lancashire’s own George Balderson in the 2020 Under-19s World Cup.
Charlesworth featured twice in that competition and had a brilliant record. He averaged 59 and had a highest score of 82, a score only topped by two players in an England shirt during the tournament.
Upon making the move to Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Charlesworth said, “I am looking forward to taking this next challenge in my career and contributing to a successful Lancashire side for the seasons ahead.”
He will be hoping the 2027 season can top some of those successful campaigns he’s had in previous years of his career.
