Luke Hands only recently agreed his first professional contract with Lancashire, putting pen to paper on a deal until the end of the 2028 season in October.

It comes off the back of a string of impressive performances for the Club, both at First Team and Second Team level, as well as England U19s recognition; Hands was a part of England’s squad in the tournament during the winter of 2025, alongside Red Rose teammate Joe Moores.

He’s made six appearances for the first team so far. Five of those came last summer, in which he picked up a couple of wickets.

In his single First Team appearance in 2026, Hands took career-best figures of 2-52 against Warwickshire, almost snatching victory from the jaws of defeat for Lancashire.

Hands, who was born in Preston, has predominantly been used as a bowler by Head Coach Steven Croft, but is a genuine all-rounder.

He has shown this for the Second XI and England U19s over the summer. He struck a quickfire 32 against the Bears and batted at number seven in England’s Youth Test against Pakistan.

In that series against Pakistan, which included the Youth Test and four ODIs, Hands featured in four of the five games. He excelled with the ball in the 50 over series, where he picked up seven wickets at an average of just 23. 

A Lancastrian through and through, Hands has graduated from Lancashire’s academy, the latest player to make the jump.

Upon signing his contract in October, he said, “Having had the chance to feature for the First Team a few times over the last couple of years, I have already learnt so much and feel like I have grown as a cricketer.”

He will no doubt be hoping there are plenty more opportunities to feature in the First Team over the next couple of years, as he embarks on this new journey with the Red Rose.
