Chris Read signs two-year extension as Lancashire Women’s Head Coach
Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce that Women’s Head Coach Chris Read has signed a new two-year contract, extending his stay at Emirates Old Trafford until the end of the 2027 season.
The extension follows a landmark 2025 campaign in which Read led Lancashire Women to a historic double - winning both the Vitality T20 County Cup and the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, the team’s first trophies as a professional side.
Read, a former Nottinghamshire captain and England international, joined Lancashire ahead of the 2024 season, after coaching spells with England Young Lions, Hobart Hurricanes and Trent Rockets.
Under his leadership, the Red Rose claimed the T20 County Cup title in May, overcoming The Blaze and Surrey at Finals Day, before defeating reigning champions Hampshire in the One-Day Cup final in September.
Speaking about his new contract, Chris Read said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to extend my time with Lancashire Women. This group of players have shown incredible progress over the last two years, and to see that rewarded with two major trophies in 2025 was special for everyone involved.
“The development we’ve made together, both on and off the field, has been really pleasing, and I’m excited about what we can continue to achieve over the next two years. There’s a huge amount of talent coming through the system, and the ambition within this squad and the wider club is relentless.
“I’m looking forward to getting the squad back together for the start of pre-season training in the coming weeks and beginning to put our plans together to build on the successes of this summer.”

Women’s Director of Cricket, David Thorley, added: “Chris has been outstanding since joining Lancashire Women, and his impact has been enormous. This summer’s double-win was the culmination of a lot of hard work - and Chris deserves huge credit for setting the standards and culture which made that success possible.
“His commitment to developing players, building a winning environment, and driving the women’s game forward aligns perfectly with the Club’s continued vision and ambitions.
“We’re delighted that he’s agreed to continue leading the team into what promises to be another exciting couple of years at Emirates Old Trafford.”
Read will oversee a pre-season training programme with the Lancashire Women’s squad, which begins at Emirates Old Trafford on Monday 10 November.
