Lancashire Cricket Women announce signing of Josie Groves

Lancashire Cricket is excited to announce the signing of Josie Groves from The Blaze on an initial two-year contract running until the end of the 2028 season.

Groves, a talented young leg-spinner, came through the academy at Northamptonshire, where she made her county debut at 14.

The 22-year-old featured in all three competitions for The Blaze in 2026 as they won the domestic treble. She took 12 wickets across formats, including 10 in T20 cricket, and played in the Vitality T20 County Cup final at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground in August.

She has also played franchise cricket in The Hundred, for Trent Rockets and, more recently, London Spirit. Groves was previously part of the England Under-19s squad at the ICC Women’s Under 19 T20 World Cup in 2023 when India beat England in the final.

Speaking upon signing her contract, Josie Groves, said: “I’m really pleased to be joining Lancashire. I’ve loved my time with the Blaze at Trent Bridge, but this is a huge Club and feels like the right place to keep developing as a player. I can’t wait to get started.

“It’s a talented squad with a strong spin group, and the success they’ve had in recent seasons was a big part of what attracted me to the Club. I’m looking forward to working with Chris Read and the coaching staff to take my game to the next level.

“Playing at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground is a big draw too. Over the next two seasons, I want to contribute to first-team success and help Lancashire compete for the top honours in county cricket.”

Lancashire Cricket Women’s Head Coach, Chris Read, added: “We’re delighted to have signed Josie for the next two seasons ahead of the 2027 campaign. She is an extremely talented leg spinner who will add real quality and depth to our bowling attack.

“Josie is a young player with a lot of potential, and we’re looking forward to working with her as she continues to develop.”
