INTERVIEW: Ben McDermott looks ahead to time with Lancashire
Lancashire Cricket’s newest Vitality Blast overseas star Ben McDermott says he is “really excited” to represent the club this summer.
Australian McDermott has joined up with the group ahead of the start of the Blast on Friday, which sees Lancs travel to London to face Surrey at the Kia Oval.
Speaking to LancsTV, he expressed just how much he’s looking forward to his time at Emirates Old Trafford. “[I’m] really excited. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the club through Greeny. I’m really looking forward to the season.
“[Lancs] are a big club. Like I said, I’ve heard a lot of great things, and I’m really excited to be a part of a club with such rich history. They’ve always been up there and competing, so I’m looking forward to the season.”
McDermott, who has played all around the world in franchise cricket and for Australia, said he’s looking forward to the prospect of playing in front of the crowd at Emirates Old Trafford, and facing off against Yorkshire.
“I haven’t played here yet, but I know it packs out for home games, so really excited to play in front of the home crowd. I know it [the Roses clash] is a huge rivalry, so I’m looking forward to experiencing that, and hopefully we can get that win.”
McDermott will be playing alongside fellow Aussie and fan favourite Chris Green, who he could not speak highly enough about.
“He’s a very lovable guy. Bats, bowls, gives it a whack and very versatile in the field. He’s well sought-after in the franchise world and we’re very lucky to have him.”

The Queenslander boasts an excellent record in T20 cricket. He’s scored 5291 runs at a strike rate of 136 and has hit three centuries. But what can Lancashire fans expect to see from the new recruit in the middle?
“Hopefully some big sixes! Some powerful hitting and finishing off some games, winning games for the team, whatever that requires me to do, with my role probably being in the middle order.
“Being versatile, when I get injected into the batting innings, and do whatever it takes really, to get us over the line and get us to a winning score. That’s my role, I just like to be versatile in that and play what I see in front of me.”
Lancashire fans can first see McDermott in action at home on Monday, as his side take on Nottinghamshire in the second game of a double header at Emirates Old Trafford.
