INTERVIEW: Chris Green looks ahead to Lancashire return

Lancashire Cricket fan favourite Chris Green says it “feels like home” upon his return to Emirates Old Trafford this week.

The Australian all-rounder, now into his third season with the Red Rose, is available for two extra Rothesay County Championship games ahead of the Vitality Blast, starting with this week’s clash at home with Middlesex.

Green has predominantly featured in white-ball cricket for Lancashire, but has played five first-class games to date, making a notable impact. He averages 53 with the bat and 25 with the ball in the longest format of the game for the club.

The 32-year-old will be hoping to demonstrate that sort of red-ball form once again in 2026, beginning at Emirates Old Trafford, a ground he holds close to his heart.

“It feels like home. It’s great to be back here with Lancashire, and the first game back at Emirates Old Trafford, as well.

“I’ve loved my last two years here with the club, and I’m really excited to get going this season.”

Green, who has been playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Islamabad United, said he didn’t have to think twice when Director of Cricket Mark Chilton and club captain James Anderson asked him to return early.

“I got a message off Chilly and Jimmy, and it was a very easy response for me.

"[They asked] ‘are you willing to come early and play some games?’ My experience and memories the last two years have been fantastic, and I absolutely jumped at that opportunity to come out and play with the guys early.”

The two-time Blast player of the year winner was keen to make it known just how much he loves playing at Emirates Old Trafford.

“It’s no secret that I love playing for Lancashire, and it’s great to be back and I’m looking forward to getting going again.

“It feels like a home away from home,” Green explained. “I really enjoy my time here, the club is great, the players are awesome, I love the fans and members, I feel so welcomed.”

The Australian is once again going to be playing under Anderson’s captaincy, an experience he found positive in 2025.

“I enjoyed playing under Jimmy last year, his captaincy was great. I love playing with him, he’s a guy you definitely want on your team, as you step over that rope, he’s got that competitive edge, desire to win, passion for the club.

He’s a very easy captain to play for. These next two games, and the two games in the Blast, I’m really looking forward to playing alongside him again.”

Green will be hoping for a successful third stint at the club explaining his role “is to come here and contribute with bat, ball and in the field, and hopefully contribute to more wins than losses.”

His first game back for the Red Rose will seem him and his teammates take on Middlesex at Emirates Old Trafford in the County Championship, starting this Friday.
