INTERVIEW: Fi Morris reflects on start to Vitality Blast
Lancashire Cricket all-rounder Fi Morris said the Red Rose are “in good stead” despite two defeats to start the Vitality Blast.
Thunder have suffered back-to-back defeats at the beginning of the competition, losing to Surrey at the Kia Oval and, most recently, The Blaze at Emirates Old Trafford.
Yet, there hasn’t been much in it in either of the games. Batting first and thus defending a score, Lancs have taken it to the final few balls. Morris was keen to point out that the side have done a good job at staying in the game.
“All you can do really in T20, and 50 overs, is just stay in it as long as you can. Sometimes it just swings one of two ways, and unfortunately we’re just on the wrong side of the results at the moment.

“For us to get as close as we have, and to have the intent that we’ve had, especially with the bat, it’s standing us in really good stead for the tournament going forwards.”
The all-rounder was quick to reiterate that, across the season the Red Rose have played cricket that is better than the results suggest.
“I don’t think we’ve been blown away at all in any game but probably haven’t had the start that we really wanted to the season.
“But we’ve played some really brilliant cricket and lost some really tight games, and just lost those key moments, the ones that just go over your head, or just bounce in front, not quite taking our chances. So, it’s not like we’ve been blown away, I’ve got full confidence we can bounce back.”
One of the standout performers so far in the Blast for Lancs has been overseas Meg Lanning. The former Australia captain has been a largely unstoppable force, with 121 runs and a best score of 81 not out against The Blaze. Morris certainly spoke highly of Lanning’s impact at Emirates Old Trafford so far.

“She’s probably the best player to have ever played the game, so to have her here at Lancashire is pretty special. When we saw her walking out at the Oval, it was pretty cool to see Meg Lanning in Lancashire red.
“Probably the word I’d use to describe her is calm. She’s obviously incredibly experienced, she’s pretty much done everything you can do in the game. She’s just super calm, obviously a lot of experience, knows exactly what she’s doing, and she’s got a good sense of humour too, which is always nice.”
Thunder have a chance to turn their form around on Friday afternoon when they take on Somerset at Emirates Old Trafford.
