INTERVIEW: Meg Lanning joins up with Lancashire ahead of Vitality Blast
Lancashire Cricket’s latest overseas recruit for the Vitality Blast, Meg Lanning, says she is “super excited” to be at Emirates Old Trafford.
Lanning, who is one of the most experienced players in world cricket, has joined Lancashire for the Vitality Blast in 2026. Her first outing will be down at the Kia Oval, where the Red Rose take on Surrey.
Speaking to LancsTV, the former Australia captain made it clear just how much she is looking forward to representing the club. “I’m really excited to join the group and to join Lancashire. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the county, and I’m super excited to be able to contribute to the Vitality Blast this year.
“There is a lot of history there [with Lancashire] and playing in such an exciting competition as well, it’s something I’m really looking forward to. So, hopefully, we can win as many games as we can and get through to that playoff stage.”

Having captained her country and lifted the World Cup multiple times, Lanning is sure to bring a lot of experience to the Red Rose dressing room. When quizzed on that, she explained that she wants to contribute on and off the field.
“[I’m] just someone who’s really competitive. I want to win every game I play in; I want to try and contribute to as many wins as I can, so you’ll certainly see that side.
“On the field I want to contribute as much as I can with runs and experience there. But I think off the field, there is a really important role for me to play there as well. Obviously I’ve had some experience around the world in different competitions, so hopefully I can have a really big impact off the field as well.”
The chance to play at Emirates Old Trafford is certainly something that excites Lanning. “Playing in front of your home fans is always really exciting. The atmosphere that’s created is great as well, so hopefully we can put on a good show for the home fans.”

The Red Rose certainly have an exciting squad, but the 34-year-old picked out Lancs all-rounder Kate Cross as someone she’s particularly excited about playing with.
“We’ve had some really good battles on the field in international cricket previously. But to play alongside her at her home county, a team she’s played for, for a long time, that’s something I’m looking forward to.”
Lanning, Cross and the rest of the team will play at Emirates Old Trafford for the first time this season next Monday, where they face The Blaze in the first game of a double header.
