Lancashire Cricket announces early arrival of overseas signing Chris Green

Lancashire Cricket can announce that overseas signing Chris Green is set to arrive at Emirates Old Trafford earlier than planned, making himself available for the Club’s two upcoming Rothesay County Championship fixtures before this season’s Vitality Blast.

Green was originally due to arrive in the UK ahead of the Vitality Blast opener against Surrey at the Kia Oval on Friday 22 May but will now be available to face Middlesex at Emirates Old Trafford (8-11 May) and Worcestershire at Southport (15-18 May).

The spin-bowling all-rounder will then remain with the Club for the duration of the Vitality Blast - including the knockout stages - as well as the two Rothesay County Championship fixtures scheduled during the competition, against Kent at Blackpool (12-15 June) and Derbyshire at Chesterfield (19-22 June).

The 32-year-old has been named Lancashire’s T20 Player of the Year in both of his previous campaigns with the Club, taking 35 wickets in 25 appearances. He has also featured in five First-Class matches for Lancashire, scoring two centuries and taking 24 wickets with his off-spin at an average of 25, including 23 wickets in four appearances last summer.

Green is currently playing for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League, with the competition ending on Sunday 3 May, after which he will arrive in the UK.

Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton said: “We’re delighted that Chris has been able to join us earlier than expected. He’s a high-quality performer with an excellent record in county cricket over the last two seasons.

“Having him available for these additional matches will be a real asset to the group. His all-round performances in the Rothesay County Championship last summer were outstanding, scoring two centuries and taking 23 wickets in just four matches.

“This will be Chris’s third season with us. He is incredibly respected in the dressing room and seen as a real leader. We can’t wait to welcome him back.”
