Lancashire Cricket appoints Paul Farbrace as Director of Cricket
Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Farbrace as the Club’s new Director of Cricket.
Farbrace - widely respected for his experience and knowledge across the game - joins as the first stage of the restructuring of the cricket department, which was announced last month, and will oversee both men’s and women’s cricket at the Club.
With more than 30 years’ experience across men’s and women’s professional, international and pathway cricket, Farbrace has held playing, coaching and senior coaching roles, including on the international stage with Sri Lanka and England.
The 59-year-old joins from Sussex CCC, where he has been Men’s Head Coach since 2022, overseeing a period of significant progress on the South Coast, including promotion for the men’s squad back to Division One of the County Championship in 2024, followed by fourth and third place finishes in the First Division.

Earlier in his coaching career, Farbrace served as Head Coach of England Women between 1999 and 2001 - and was responsible for the England Women’s A and Under-19 teams - while also working as an ECB Regional National Coach across the pathway.
He also worked as Director of Cricket at Warwickshire CCC. During his tenure, Warwickshire Men won the County Championship and Bob Willis Trophy in 2021, while also qualifying for the knockout stages of the Men’s T20 Blast during each of his four seasons at Edgbaston.
From 2015 to 2019, he worked alongside England Men’s Head Coach Trevor Bayliss, with the pair playing a key role in developing a new, positive approach to England’s one-day cricket, in addition to winning the Ashes in 2015.
Before joining England, Farbrace was Men’s Head Coach of Sri Lanka, where he helped guide the team to their first-ever ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in 2014.

Speaking about his appointment, Paul Farbrace said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Lancashire Cricket, and I can’t wait to get started.
“It is a real honour to be asked to join the Club at this exciting time, and I look forward to playing my part in helping Lancashire challenge for trophies and to develop teams that the Members and supporters can be very proud of.”
Chief Executive Richard Kenyon added: “Paul’s credentials and capability for this role were obviously very clear - but he particularly impressed us with his understanding of where the Club is and what we need to do to move forward.
“Paul brings significant experience across both the men’s and women’s game, as well as an excellent track record of success. We wanted an established, high-performing Director of Cricket, with a strong understanding of the leagues, players and wider landscape of the game - and Paul ticks all those boxes.
“We’re really excited to have Paul on board and I’m looking forward to working with him. It was important that we moved quickly with the Director of Cricket appointment, as it represents the first piece of the jigsaw as we continue our wider review of cricket at Lancashire - which Paul will play a key part in when he joins us later in the year.”
