Lancashire Cricket secure signing of Ben Charlesworth ahead of 2027 season
Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce the signing of highly rated all-rounder Ben Charlesworth from Gloucestershire CCC ahead of the 2027 season.
Charlesworth, a left-handed batter who bowls medium pace, will make the move to Emirates Old Trafford on a three-year contract from 1 November 2026.
In last season’s Rothesay County Championship, Charlesworth scored 914 runs, including two centuries - one of which came against Lancashire at Cheltenham in July.
The 25-year-old has made 60 First-Class appearances since his debut in 2018, scoring 2,869 runs at an average of 30, alongside taking 33 wickets.
He also boasts a strong List A record, with almost 1,000 runs at an average of 39, including his maiden century in the format against Hampshire in last summer’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
In T20 cricket, Charlesworth averages 24 with the bat, at a strike rate of 145, and has gained valuable franchise experience with MI Emirates in the ILT20. He was also an ever-present in the Gloucestershire side that won the 2024 Vitality Blast – scoring 221 runs at 24.

Speaking about the move, Ben Charlesworth said: “I am really excited to be joining Lancashire Cricket. It’s a club with a proud history and strong ambitions across all formats.
“I know Ajeet Singh Dale and Will Porterfield well from their time at Gloucestershire, and they have spoken very highly about the set-up at Lancs and at Emirates Old Trafford.
“I am looking forward to taking this next challenge in my career and contributing to a successful Lancashire side for the seasons ahead.”

Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton added: “Ben is a player we have tracked closely for some time, and we are delighted to have secured his services from the 2027 season onwards.
“His ability to contribute across multiple areas of the game makes him a valuable addition to our squad, particularly with his capability to bat in different positions and provide a seam bowling option.
“Ben has shown great promise over the past couple of seasons, and we believe he has the potential to develop even further here at Emirates Old Trafford once he joins up in November.
“I would also like to thank Jon Lewis at Gloucestershire for allowing us to approach Ben and complete the deal ahead of the usual first of June window for out of contract players.”
