Lancashire Cricket Women sign Australian all-rounder Maddie Penna for Metro Bank One-Day Cup
Lancashire Women is delighted to announce the overseas signing of Australian all-rounder Maddie Penna for the next four matches of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
Penna, who has been signed as a short-term replacement for the injured Gaby Lewis, arrived in the UK on Thursday and will be available from tomorrow against Hampshire at Emirates Old Trafford, before remaining with the Red Rose through to the clash with Surrey at the Oval on Saturday 16 May.
The 25-year-old right-handed batter and leg-spinner arrives at Emirates Old Trafford with an impressive record in Australia’s domestic game, having represented South Australia, featured prominently in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) with Adelaide Strikers, and earned international honours with Australia A.
Across her WBBL career, Penna has scored 1,136 runs at an average just shy of 30, while adding 13 wickets with her leg-spin.
Penna also gained valuable experience in English domestic cricket last summer with Essex Women, where she impressed in the Vitality Blast with a series of impactful middle-order innings, scoring 313 runs in 14 matches, at an average of 28, and picking up five wickets.
