Lancashire duo named in England Women U19s squad
Two Lancashire players have been named in a 15-player squad by England Women U19s for their biggest ever winter programme of cricket culminating in an ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Nepal and Bangladesh.
Wicketkeeper Skye Thomas and leg spinner Venus Weerappuli are the two Red Rose representatives to be named in the squad. The pair made their Lancashire debuts across both formats in 2026, with their impressive performances now recognised with England selection.
Following a series of training camps in the UK, the squad will travel to take part in a five-match T20 series against India in November/December 2026, and at its completion they will remain in India for a further week to continue their outdoor preparations for the ICC tournament in January/February 2027.
Head coach Chris Guest said: “This is an exciting opportunity for this group of players who will be the best prepared squad we will have sent to the U19 Women’s World Cup.
"The aspiration as always is to win the U19 World Cup. Taking on board learnings from previous campaigns, we have gone about things slightly differently this time, ensuring that our players are getting some game time outdoors much closer to the tournament.
"The goals for the winter are dual focused. We want to win the World Cup, and we are also developing players and helping them prepare for what their career might look like in a professional environment."
A captain will be named at a later date.
