Lancashire name XI for Worcestershire clash
No play was possible on Day One of the Division Two clash between Worcestershire and Lancashire, as heavy rainfall forced a washout at New Road.
Following yesterday’s wash out, Lancashire have lost the toss and will bat first against Worcestershire at New Road today.
Lancashire XI: Keaton Jennings, Matthew Hurst+, Josh Bohannon*, Marcus Harris, Rocky Flintoff, Arav Shetty, George Balderson, Ben Walkden, Tom Bailey, Noman Ali, Tom Aspinwall
In James Anderson’s absence, the team will be led by vice-captain Josh Bohannon.
There are two changes to the side from last week with Matthew Hurst and Tom Aspinwall coming into the side, in place of Joe Moores and Mitch Stanley.
Speaking about the team selection, Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton said: "We're excited by the talented young players in our squad at the moment. They're still relatively inexperienced, but we're incredibly proud they've come through our Academy and have already made an impression in First Team cricket this year.
"They're outstanding individuals with the skills and ability to flourish at this level. Developing homegrown players is central to our cricket vision, led by the Board, and will be at the heart of the Club's future success.
"Their development is best supported by having experienced players around them. It's important we have the right balance in the side, with senior players who can guide and support our younger players through both their performances and their experience. We have some outstanding players in our squad who've played at the highest level, and we have complete trust in their ability to perform despite recent challenges.
“Matthew Hurst and Tom Aspinwall come back into the side this week. Hurst will open, which will allow Marcus Harris to slot back into the middle order. Unfortunately, James Anderson isn't quite ready to feature yet but is working incredibly hard to return soon.
"Following last week's disappointment, we expect to see a response from the group. It’s important everyone stands up and performs this week. We know the ability we have throughout this squad, both young and experienced, and now it is essential we see a performance that reflects that."
