Luke Wells signs new three-year contract with Lancashire Cricket
Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce that Luke Wells has signed a new three-year contract, keeping him at Emirates Old Trafford until at least the end of the 2028 season.
The left-handed all-rounder joined from Sussex ahead of the 2021 season and has since become a key figure across all formats.
In 148 appearances across five seasons at Emirates Old Trafford, Wells has scored 5,708 runs, including 11 centuries, primarily at the top of the order, alongside taking 109 wickets with his right-arm spin.
Wells has developed into an influential white-ball player during his time at the Club and was awarded his County Cap in 2022.
His highest score for the Red Rose remains an unbeaten 175 in a successful final-day run chase of 329 in the County Championship against Warwickshire in 2022, while his best bowling figures of 5 for 25 came against Northamptonshire in 2023.
Wells signed the new deal with the Club ahead of the start of the 2026 season. He is now set to undergo surgery next week on the dislocated shoulder he suffered against Gloucestershire.

Speaking about his new contract Luke Wells said: “I am delighted to extend my time with Lancashire. I have loved my time at Emirates Old Trafford and feel I’ve developed my game across all formats here.
“There’s a strong belief within the squad about what we can achieve since Crofty has taken over as Head Coach, and I’m excited to play my part in pushing for success over the next few years.
“We have had a strong winter which has led to a positive start in red ball cricket, my focus now is on getting back to full fitness as soon as possible and helping us achieve our goals.”

Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton also commented: “We agreed a deal during the winter for Luke to stay with us at Emirates Old Trafford for the next three seasons.
“Luke has proved, across all formats, what value he can bring to the team. He offers us lots of options as a cricketer with both bat and ball. He’s also a very good person to have in the dressing room - a real team man who is never shy about speaking up for the cause.
“Signing Luke to a new deal wasn’t a difficult decision for us to make. Luke wanted to commit to a medium-term deal with Lancs, and we were happy to commit to that too. We wish him well in his recovery, and he knows, in his position now, that he has the full backing of the Club.”
