MATCH PREVIEW: Lancashire Lightning vs. Derbyshire Falcons, Vitality Blast Men
Lancashire Lightning v Derbyshire Falcons
Vitality Blast, North Group
Monday July 6, 2026, 6.30pm
Emirates Old Trafford
It’s crunch time in the Blast, and Lancashire are almost certainly going to have to win all three of their remaining games in order to have any chance of finishing in the top two places in the North for quarter-final qualification.
A three-game winning streak was ended in thrilling fashion by North Group leaders Nottinghamshire Outlaws at Trent Bridge on Friday night, by one run chasing a target of 182.
It has left them third in the group, six points behind second-placed Yorkshire, who they have to play at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday. Yorkshire have Notts to play as well.
So it would be best for Lancs if they beat Derbyshire, then Yorkshire and Durham - the latter next Sunday at Emirates Old Trafford - and hope Notts’ beat Yorkshire at Headingley on the final day of group action.

The two best third-placed finishers from the three groups also advance, but currently the South and Midlands and Central are better placed.
Opposition
Derbyshire are bottom of the North Group with only two wins from their eight games.
They have lost five and tied one, the latter coming against Yorkshire at Chesterfield last Sunday when both teams finished on 215.
Captained by destructive opening batter Aneurin Donald, they are coached by South African Mickey Arthur, who is titled their head of cricket.

The Falcons are choosing two from three registered overseas players; Australian batter Caleb Jewell, Pakistani spinner Sufyan Moqim and his compatriot fast bowler Akif Javed. The two Pakistanis are playing at present.
Derbyshire’s last game was the four-run defeat to the Lightning at Derby on Wednesday night.
Opposition player to watch
Homegrown seamer Nick Potts claimed a T20 career best 3-29 in the game between these two counties at Derby last Wednesday.
Potts, 23, was born in Staffordshire and came through their age-groups before making his second and first-team debuts for Derbyshire in 2018 and 2022 respectively.

He has only played nine Blast games, taking 12 wickets, but has already proved himself a handy performer.
He nearly pulled the game against the Lightning out of the fire last week with a dynamic 32 down the order as the Falcons pursued 206.
Previous meeting
The class of Sir James Anderson guided Lancashire to a tense four-run Blast victory over Derbyshire Falcons at The OurCoop County Ground last Wednesday.
Anderson bowled a superb penultimate over which cost only three runs and finished with 2-19 as the hosts were dismissed for 210 chasing 206.
Aneurin Donald blasted six sixes in a 37 ball 88, his highest T20 score, and Ross Whiteley hammered 46 from 29, but Anderson’s nous proved decisive.
Lightning posted 205 all out, with Ben McDermott scoring 68 from 40 balls and Shadab Khan 58 off 22 before Akif Javed took three wickets in the final over to finish with 4-36.

Pakistani overseas star Shadab reached his fifty off 19 balls, the fastest T20 half-century in Lancashire’s history.
What they said
Lancashire are down after Friday night’s nail-biter at Notts’ but by no means out.
The Lightning can still make it through to the quarter-finals, and captain Keaton Jennings agrees with our earlier suggestion that they will need to be perfect from here on in.
“Realistically, we have to win three to guarantee ourselves,” said the opener. “We play Yorkshire and Durham around us, which is good. So it’s in our hands.

“But we need to make sure that we come back Monday and play good cricket.
“It’s near enough knockout cricket. If we win six in a row, we win the comp.
“Notts have gone six in a row, so there’s no reason why we can’t.
“We need to make sure we play good cricket. We’ve not been at our best for a full 40 overs.”
How’s Stat!
Keaton Jennings has Karl Brown in his sights in terms of Lancashire’s leading T20 run-scorers.
The Red Rose captain currently sits on 2,054 runs for the county in T20 cricket, 136 shy of third-placed Brown (2,188).
Left-handed Jennings contributed 42 to his tally in the defeat against Nottinghamshire Outlaws at Trent Bridge on Friday evening.
