Ramsbottom beat Edgworth in historic Women’s T20 Knockout Cup Final
In a historic day for Lancashire Cricket, Ramsbottom Cricket Club and Edgworth Cricket Club faced off in the Lancashire Cricket Foundation Women’s T20 Knockout Cup Final at AO Farington Cricket Ground.
It was the first time the final of the competition was held at the new second home of Lancashire Cricket, with Ramsbottom running out convincing winners to lift the trophy.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat by Edgworth, Ramsbottom lost opener Scarlett Anderson early, after she fell for a quickfire 17. Captain Maeve Jones (10) was out just five balls after the powerplay, with Amelia Buckley and Manvi Rajshetty also falling inside the first 10 overs.
That brought Adelaide Mather (38) and Evie Hall together at the crease. The pair were Ramsbottom’s two standout batters, with their number three, Mather, providing some stability after those early wickets fell.
Despite losing Mather with 89 runs on the board, wicket-keeper Hall continued to keep the scoreboard ticking along. She struck eight fours on her way to a crucial 47, helping get her team up to 143-8 from their 20 overs. Rebecca and Anna Parkinson were the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets apiece.
With a good total on the board, Ramsbottom got off to the perfect start. After starring with the bat, Mather dismissed Laura Agatha Silva just five balls into the innings.
That early wicket set Ramsbottom on course for a dominant 20 overs. Edgworth’s top scorer was opening batter Holly Northrop, who hit a run-a-ball 17 before she was bowled by Bryony Gledhill with three balls left of the powerplay.
From there, the bowling side managed to get completely on top of the game. They had their opponents 37-4 at the halfway stage and managed to keep that pressure on for the rest of the 20 overs.
Despite a fighting 17 not out from Eve Murray, Edgworth were bowled out for just 84 off the final ball of their 20 overs. Mather finished with figures of 4-13 to cap off an outstanding day.
Her side Ramsbottom got over the line comfortably, to claim a 59-run win and lift the Women’s T20 Knockout Cup in the first final held at AO Farington Cricket Ground on a historical day.
