Remembering Phil Clarke, 1953-2026

Remembering Phil Clarke, 1953-2026

It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Lancashire Member and longstanding Members' Representative Group (MRG) member, Phil Clarke, who died in hospital in Burton-Upon-Trent last month, surrounded by his family.

Phil was a passionate Lancashire fan and did a great deal of work for the Club over many years. Along with his late wife Chris, who died in 2017, he travelled on a number of Lancashire’s pre-season cricket tours to Sri Lanka and Abu Dhabi.

Phil was a volunteer on the MRG, helping Members with their queries and liaising with club officials to find a resolution. During covid he made hundreds of welfare calls to Members to check in. He was the main contact for helping with Match Day information as his attention to detail was second to none.

Many connected with the club will remember Phil as a thoughtful, methodical, kind and generous man with a good, warm sense of humour. As well as Lancashire Cricket, Phil’s passions included spending time with his extensive family, including his children, stepchildren, sister, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Phil was also a longstanding season ticket holder at Blackpool Football Club, as well as a Lancashire Member. A passionate Tangerines fan, he travelled regularly to home games from his house in South Derbyshire.

Phil was fair and firm, warm and humorous, calm in a storm, dependable and methodical. He never needed to be the loudest person in the room. He didn’t need to shout to be heard. He simply had a quiet, steady presence.

May you rest peacefully.

If you would like to make a donation in Phil’s memory, the family have chosen causes which between them say a great deal about the things he cared about: the RSPB, the RSPCA, and the charitable foundations connected with Blackpool Football Club and Lancashire Cricket. They reflect Phil’s lifelong love of animals, football and cricket, and any contribution will be very gratefully received.
