SECOND XI REPORT: Shetty hits century against Leicestershire

SECOND XI REPORT: Shetty hits century against Leicestershire

Day 2: Lancashire 1st innings: 448 all out (110.1 overs) Arav Shetty 139, George Bell 91, Ollie Sutton 67. Ali Farooq 3-91. Leicestershire 1st innings: 119-1 and they trail by 329 runs.

Arav Shetty hit his second century for the Lancashire Second XI, making an impressive 139 in a first innings total of 448 with Ollie Sutton contributing 67, at a rain-hit Grace Road where only  49 overs were possible on the second day.

Shetty, 80 not out overnight, went to his second century for the Second XI from 135 balls that included a six plus 12 fours, and his innings also bettered his 100 not out against Glamorgan from last season.

Shetty and Sutton shared a partnership of 125 for the seventh wicket until Sutton was caught at gully to leave Lancashire 372-7 while Shetty added 49 for the eighth wicket with Charlie Barnard by which time he had added two further sixes to his tally, both lofted drives off Liam Trevaskis, before edging behind off Theo Marshall.

Barnard and Charlie Parkinson both fell to Ali Farooq, to give the left arm spinner figures of 3-91, to end the innings.

Sol Budinger hit two sixes and 3 fours in an attacking 31 off 28 balls when Leicestershire began their innings until he pulled Sutton to George Harris at midwicket with the score on 41.

That proved to be the only success for the Red Rose attack as Sheridon Gumbs (25 not out) and Jonny Tattersall (46 not out) added 78 to take the Leicestershire reply to 119-1 when rain ended proceedings at 3.48pm.
